I've been reading a lot of books about the ICW and sailing in the Bahamas as my wife and I are heading that way next year. Its hard finding books with useful info if you have been a sailor all your life. Most are really for the beginner sailor. This is one of the better books with some fun stories and a lot of practical info about the trip. I have been marking the margins of my intercostal waterway book with some of his suggestions for places to stop and visit and other places to anchor. I just ordered his book on barging in France as we are planning something similar also. He is pretty good writer.Product details

Mr. Hezlep's vivid imagery brings the Intracoastal Waterways to life. His book is perfect for anyone who has dreamed of living the life of a sea dog, or for those who have their own stories to tell.
Not many people have had the opportunity to slip off the lines and sail off into the sunset. Bill has a wonderful writing skill that allows the armchair sailor to enjoy the adventures even while tied to the old land base. His stories are true to heart and bring to life in the readers mind the enchantment of living the dream. For those of us who have actually sailed to the land of coconut dreams, reading his recounts of his journeys bring back warm wonderful memories of gentle breezes, gentle people and a very gentle way of life.
There are a lot of ways to live a life. And the author and his friend have chosen a way I'd only mythologized prior to reading about their incredible retirement-era cruises. Since I, too, was "eased" into early retirement as the author describes that point in his life, I particularly appreciated his comments in the Afterwards "Time, age, health problems, family concerns, etc., eventually creep up on all of us. If your late-night thoughts and weekend fantasies take you down to the land of coconut dreams... climb on that boat, or into that RV, disconnect your web of commitments and entanglements and go." Whereas many of us may not be inclined to buy a sailboat or an RV - or able to afford to purchase and maintain one - all of us have the power to take charge of our lives and live unencumbered by imaginary or surmountable constraints. Into the Land of Coconut Dreams isn't just a travelogue It's an inspiration to make every day count.
I don't know whether this work is a marketing tool for yacht sales, a "cruiser" (someone living aboard their boat) instruction manual, or an adventure story to live an exciting experience vicariously - maybe it's all three. You'll admire and envy what this couple did. You'll gain true insights into living aboard a small boat. You'll be entertained by self-effacing humor. You'll put the book down feeling really good, and you may develop a yearning to go trekking yourself, by land, sea, or air.
This is a delightful book to read. It is entertaining, informative and filled with personal stories and anecdotes you will enjoy. It has a good beginning that flows smoothly to an even better ending. When I reached the end I wanted more
