The Top 256 Rules of Paleontology Walter W Stein
I'm a huge fan of the author's "So You Want To Dig Dinosaurs" book, so I was really excited to see that he wrote another. The concept of this book is excellent, and there is a lot of good information in it. I don't know if you'd necessarily want to sit down and read it cover-to-cover, but it's fun to look through and read the sections that catch your eye. What I would really *really* love to see him write is a "256 Rules of Paleontology Lab Prep." There just are no books that talk about the various techniques of preparing bones once you've got them in the lab. There is nothing that talks about what solvents to use on penetrant/stabilizer, what types of media to use with a media blaster, the various types and brands of blasters (microblaster, accuflow, swam, etc.), mini jackhammers (paleotools, or what about the low-vibration ones made in Germany), etc. What are the best products to use to glue and cosmetically repair bones, and when should they be used (or not be used,) etc. etc. There just doesn't seem to be any information on this on the web or in books.
So Mr. Stein, please make this your third book! ;-)

The Top 256 Rules of Paleontology Walter W Stein Reviews
Funny but yet educational at the same time.
While it is written mostly for professional paleontologists, the practical info will be just as useful to amateur fossil collectors. Reading this made me REALLY want to go dig.
Parts of this book provide useful information, and sometimes good entertainment. This was tarnished by a long, largely off-topic rant about global warming issues, and, at least in this e-book version, some really annoying (and sadly consistent) formatting problems. I cannot recommend it for general readers, but if you are looking to learn some useful tips on paleontology and don't mind dealing with those foibles, then you may still want to give it a look.
A very informative and entertaining description of the unique aspects of paleontology. I would recommend this work to both experienced and new paleontologists!
Walter Stein takes a lighthearted, yet honest approach to an area of science that is all to often made boring by most books on the topic. this one keeps you entertained. Its filled with Ah Ha! moments, as well as comedic moments. You wont regret opening this one!
Excellent, handy if brief.
